Nowadays the world is running out of fuel in the future there will
be NO fossil fuel left out . There are a lot of alternative fuels all around
the world. In the recent years these fuels have been obtained by cutting into
the food and land supply ( like ethanol from corn and sugarcane). What if this
alternative source comes from the microbes which is omnipresent in this
world is has a high efficiency low cost
and is easy to obtain as oxygen in the air around us.
In the recent years, scientist have been
working in this alternative source of fuels and have been able to come up with
electro fuels that are designed to harness solar energy without damaging the
food, land and water supplies.
The microbes only require very little
energy to efficiently and effectively synthesise these electro fuels in lab.
These electro fuel microbes have been isolated and found living in non
photosynthetic bacteria. These microbes eat up the energy to produce butanol
when exposed to electricity and co2. Using this knowledge, scientists have
extracted the genes to complete this photosynthesis substitute and inject them
into the lab grown bacteria allowing them to produce butanol in large amounts.
At present butanol is considered as a better source of altenative to both
ethanol and gasoline.
Since it has a larger energy carrying
capacity and does not absorb water. It can be placed directly in gas tanks of
any car and transported through the existing gasoline pipelines.
These butanol microbes are very promising for the future of alternative
fuels.
