Wiki cells made its mark by showing that edible packaging can be as safe, tasty and commercially viable. The edible packaging which is a gelatinous skin is comprised of actual bits of food such as fruits, nuts and coconut flakes , along with small amounts of fibrous chitosan, algae extract and calcium ions. The tensile strength of this type of edible packaging is very strong to hold everything from hot to cold food items. This layer is engineered to lock in moisture and prevent oxidation.
 





Imagine a cup which is as tasty as a drink. It can’t replace our favorite cup we have in our homes. But it is a good  eco friendly alternative methods. This is a picture of wiki cell technology where the food is covered by a  skin which is a protective electrostatic gels formed by harnessing interactions between natural food particles , nutritive ions and a polysaccharide. Because of this technology the skin becomes more impermeable to water and oxygen than other edible skins available. These wiki cells can be stored in refrigerated and stored for 15 days.

 
Thus the future of sustainable packaging is beautiful and edible. This is the best Method to have an ecofriendly environment and to reduce the use of plastics. This method minimizes the waste and avoids the use of chemical modification and just use natural processes and materials. But a disadvantage is the time scale of the packaging as it depends on the type of food it is and how the food material is stored.”It is not like plastic that is around forever” says EDWARD. And we as food technologists think is the best ways of packing food items. But various agenda has to be met in order to satisfy the conditions of hygiene, safety and preserving the food grade material used for packaging from the attack of microbes.
